Athletic director Fr. Vic Calvo, O.P. believes Oliver Almadro is the ideal candidate to revitalize the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights’ volleyball program.
On Friday evening, Calvo formally announced Almadro’s appointment, despite the veteran volleyball coach already conducting practices for the Lady Knights for almost a month.
Almadro is taking over from Mike Inoferio, who led the Lady Knights to a 5-4 win-loss record in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament earlier this year.
“I am happy to have one of the top minds in Philippine volleyball,” Calvo said in a statement, noting that Almadro’s connection with Letran makes him an excellent fit for the institution.
While overseeing the school’s volleyball program, Almadro’s primary focus will be on the Lady Knights.
In the 1990s, Almadro was a member of Letran’s men’s volleyball team before pursuing a coaching career after graduation.
He then led the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles’ women’s volleyball program to their last UAAP championship in Season 81.
Almadro is also the head coach of the Petro Gazz Angels in the Premier Volleyball League.
