Scoot Henderson, the third overall pick in this year’s draft, strongly believes that he will win the 2024 Rookie of the Year award.
“My goal, obviously, is to win Rookie of the Year, and I will win Rookie of the Year,” Henderson said in a video posted by Playmaker.
The Portland guard explained why he has so much confidence in himself.
“That’s just a mindset, a manifestation that I kind of grew,” the 19-year-old guard said. “Never doubted myself, you know, making sure I’m always putting good energy in the air, making sure I’m telling myself, ‘I’m gonna have a great rookie season.’ I’m not saying I want to have a great rookie season; I’m gonna have a great rookie season. I’m gonna have a great career. I will have a great career, and making sure that’s always in just past tense because it happened.”
Henderson could face a ton of responsibilities with the Trail Blazers in his rookie year if the rumored trade for Damian Lillard pushes through.
According to Caesars Sportsbook, Henderson has the third-best odds to win the award, behind the highly touted Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren. Holmgren was the second pick in last year’s draft but missed the entirety of the 2022–2023 season due to a foot injury. (MJD)
