SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go called on Filipinos to stay active and make sports part of their everyday lives as he joined the 22nd Lex Talionis Golf Tour: Supremo Cup in Dasmariñas City.
Speaking during the tournament’s awarding and fellowship dinner, Go stressed that sports should not be limited to professional athletes or competitions only.
“I have always encouraged our fellow Filipinos, regardless of age, to stay active and make sports part of their lives,” Go said.
He also used the event to reiterate his call for Filipinos to choose sports and healthy activities over harmful habits.
“Get into sports, stay away from drugs, to keep us healthy and fit!” he said.
Go also pointed to the broader lessons that can come from sports, particularly discipline, focus and respect.
“Golf teaches us patience, discipline, focus, and respect values that are equally important outside the course,” the senator said.
The annual tournament brought together members of Lex Talionis and golf enthusiasts for a day of competition before the evening fellowship and awarding ceremony.
For Go, however, the event’s value was not simply measured by who took home the trophies.
“Whether or not you are bringing home an award tonight, I hope you enjoyed the competition and, more importantly, the fellowship that comes with it,” he said. (Jesus Nathaniel Valdez)
