Serrano-Melecio combination lift La Salle in stunning victory over UST
La Salle released all their frustrations coming from their UP loss on Wednesday.
The Green Archers victimized UST Growling Tigers in a 92-77 beating in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena, on Saturday September 28.
La Salle made sure that the UST would never come close in the game, even with a 54-50 threat in the third period.
The Taft-based squad never looked back after a 13-4 surge led by Encho Serrano, which became a 67-58 deficit entering the fourth canto.
Still, La Salle was not done with their onslaught yet, as Aljun Melecio buried back-to-back treys with over a minute left in the matchup, which became a 88-71 lead.
“We were due to win. The way the team has been practicing, it showed in today’s game,” La Salle head coach Gian Nazario said.
Enchk Serrano had the game of his life with career-best 29 points and five rebounds
Melecio also came out hot with 26 points on six-of-nine shooting from rainbow territory, while Jamie Malonzo provider the Archers a much-needed help with 13 markers and nine rebounds to improve their record at 3-4.
Meanwhile for UST, Brent Paraiso had a breakout game with career-high 22 points and 6 rebounds, while Soulemane Chabi Yo also had a similar feat of 16 markers and 14 boards, but they were not able to avoid a 4-3 drop at the standings.
