Rising star Shevana Laput of the De La Salle University Lady Spikers has attributed her Most Valuable Player trophy in the recently concluded Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals to her teammates.
The 6-foot-2 volleybelle stated that the trust of her teammates enabled her to excel for the Lady Spikers, who were without stars Angel Canino and Justine Jazareno during the tournament.
“I feel honored, but it was all because of my teammates. My teammates gave me that trust, they gave me that boost to hit, and they gave the support. I could swing knowing that they’re there covering (for) me,” said Laput.
The 6-foot-2 volleybelle stated that the trust of her teammates enabled her to excel for the Lady Spikers, who were without stars Angel Canino and Justine Jazareno during the tournament.
She contributed 18 points in Game 2 and followed it with a 13-point performance, including 11 hits and two blocks, during the decisive Game 3. In this winner-take-all match, La Salle secured victory with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-17 scoreline, ultimately defeating Adamson.
However, Laput recognizes that she is not yet as complete a player as she envisions herself to be. She is focused on continued improvement and development as she looks ahead to UAAP Season 86. With the added responsibility of being the SSL MVP, she understands that she will carry a larger target on her back.
“I mean, it’s really great. It’s amazing. It’s an honor, like I said. But I guess this makes me feel like I need to step up even more. I need to work even harder, you know, now that there’s a ‘reputation’ kind of thing,” Laput said.
