SMC, MVP engage in tug of war for Maverick Ahanmisi

Player agent Danny Espiritu revealed to Spin.ph columnist Homer Sayson that the TNT Tropang Giga has reached out to Maverick Ahanmisi in an attempt to sign the free agent gunner.

“Hinihintay ko lang ang pagbalik niya dito sa Pilipinas, and siya na ang mag-decide kung sa TNT siya pupunta or sa SMC group,” Espiritu said in a phone interview with Sayson on Wednesday.

Sports insider Snow Badua earlier posted on social media that a team from the San Miguel Corporation offered to sign Ahanmisi.

The Fil-Nigerian guard posted averages of 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game last season. He blossomed in the last conference, the Governor’s Cup, where he averaged 19.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists with the Converge Fiber Xers.

However, Ahanmisi and Converge failed to agree on a new contract. Badua also revealed that Ahanmisi was asking for a salary of P900,000 per month.

If TNT lands Ahanmisi, they will have a deeper backcourt, as they already have the duo of Jayson Castro and Mikey Williams. (MJD)
