The St. Clare Saints pulled off a stunner in the PG Flex Linoleum-UCBL Invitational Tournament after an 83-77 win over the University of the East Red Warriors on Friday afternoon at the SGS Gym in Quezon City.
The Jinino Manansala-mentored Saints held the Red Warriors to just two points in the final three minutes of the contest as they tied their victim with a 2-1 win-loss slate.
Johnsherick Estrada top-scored for the Saints with 18 points, including four pressure-packed free throws, to go with his five rebounds and five assists.
Ryan Sual and Ahron Estacio also contributed double-digits on offense with 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Trailing for most of the way, the Saints forced the Warriors to either make hurried shots or turn the ball with their sustained defensive pressure on the way to delivering a telling 10-2 final run.
In the second game, the San Sebastian College Golden Stags encountered little trouble in dispatching the Philippine Women’s University side, 92-63, for a 3-1 record.
The Stags had four players score in double figures, with Nikko Aguilar leading the way with 21 points and three boards.
