Stalzer powers F2 Logistics over United VC
Lindsay Stalzer finally made her debut and towed F2 Logistics to a 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 win over United VC in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The 30-year old spiker from Illinois was worth the wait as she wreaked havoc at the firing end to keep the Cargo Movers unbeaten in this prestigious women’s club tourney that has ESPN5 and 5Plus as broadcast partners.
Stalzer, who missed F2 Logistics’ first two games to fulfill a commitment in Indonesia, fired 25 kills and five blocks to finish with 30 points while Becky Perry chipped in 16 markers for the former champion.
F2 Logistics head coach Ramil de Jesus said Stalzer’s presence definitely boosted their campaign against a UVC squad that parades US NCAA Division I standouts like Filipino-Americans Kalei Mau and Alohi Robbins-Hardy as well as imports Tai Manu-Olevao and Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani.
“If Lindsay wasn’t here, we would have probably lost, 3-0,” said de Jesus after plucking their third win in this tourney sponsored by Asics, Mikasa, Mueller, Senoh, Team Rebel Sports, Bizooku, UCPB Gen, Cocolife, Hotel Sogo and Data Project.
“UVC is really a strong team that is only starting to know each other. Stalzer had practiced with us only twice, but she’s really a great leader inside the court. We’re going to need more form her as the season progresses.”
After knotting the count at one-set apiece, the Cargo Movers caught fire in the third set with Stalzer and Majoy Baron conniving to erect a 23-19 lead.
Setter Kim Fajardo then called for a one-two play, where she found an open Stalzer who connected a kill from the right wing.
UVC tried to fight back in the fourth set with Bedart-Ghani leading the way. But Stalzer used her vast experience to the hilt to turn a 9-13 deficit into a 20-20 deadlock en route to the victory.
Mau spearheaded the attack with 22 points while Bedart-Ghani and Manu-Olevao delivered 18 and 14 points, respectively, for UVC, which suffered their second setback in three matches.
