Steph edges Shai as NBA’s active best point guard, according to Parker

RETIRED San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker has given Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry the slight edge over Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in his assessment of the NBA’s best point guard today.

Parker acknowledged that Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as one of the league’s premier stars, but said Curry’s championship résumé remains the deciding factor for him.

“For me, right now, you still have to say Steph Curry,” Parker said in an interview with Anton Roxas of Bilyonaryo News Channel’s The Scorecard.

The four-time NBA champion also highlighted Gilgeous-Alexander’s versatility, noting that the Canadian star has the ability to impact the game from different positions.

“And then you have Shai, too. Shai is a point guard because for me, he can play everywhere. He’s so good,” Parker said.

Parker ultimately narrowed his choice to the two guards, with Curry getting the nod because of his four NBA championships.

“So I’ll say between Shai and Steph. I say Steph right now because he’s got four NBA championships, but Shai’s got one championship, two MVPs. So either one, I’m fine,” he said.

Gilgeous-Alexander has already built an impressive résumé of his own, including an NBA championship and two MVP awards, but Parker believes Curry’s sustained success at the highest level still gives the Warriors superstar the advantage.

For Parker, the debate between the two reflects the changing landscape of the NBA, with Curry representing an established all-time great and Gilgeous-Alexander emerging as one of the league’s new faces. (Adrian Co)
