Steve Akomo’s absence fueled UST to play great basketball

The UST Growling Tigers finally claimed their first back-to-back wins this 81st season at the expense of UP Fighting Maroons, 86-72, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, October 10.

Looking at their game from start to finish, UST was really inspired to play good team basketball especially that their import, Steve Akomo, is out of the rotation after sustaining a blood clot on his head.

“Everybody came out to play today. Almost all of my players, they played well,” said UST head coach Aldin Ayo.

When asked about Akomo’s condition as of this moment, Ayo had some good news about him.

“The UST will make an official statement regarding Steve [Akomo], pero okay naman siya,” Ayo explained.

“Hopefully he recovers, although I think nothing serious naman pero sana gumaling kasi kawawa naman yung bata.”

Now that the Tigers ended the first round on a good note, Ayo would like to dedicate their win to Akomo and to the rest of the Thomasians out there.

“This [win] is for Steve [Akomo], for all the players, and for the UST community,” he said.
