GILAS Pilipinas is taking a cautious approach to Justin Brownlee’s return as the naturalized star continues to recover from multiple injuries.
Brownlee is currently in San Diego, California where he is recovering from ankle and hamstring issues, an insider told Abante Bilyonaryo Group’s Homer Sayson.
The national team is not rushing Brownlee back into action as it prioritizes his full recovery before he resumes basketball activities.
Brownlee remains an important part of Gilas Pilipinas’ plans for the upcoming international competitions, including the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers and the 2026 Asian Games.
The veteran forward helped the Philippines win the men’s basketball gold medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games and remains the country’s leading naturalized-player option following Angelo Kouame’s unavailability for the upcoming continental competition.
With the Asian Games approaching, Gilas is expected to closely monitor Brownlee’s condition before determining when he can rejoin the national team. (Adrian Co)
