Studies First! Lebron Lopez forgoes EWP training for Ateneo diploma
Lebron Lopez knows that he is a student first, before athlete.
The Fil-Angolan youngster has decided not to fly in US to train with Kai Sotto and the rest of the East West Private prospects.
Instead, the 16-year old Lopez will focus on getting his diploma with Ateneo High School.
“I’m staying put in Ateneo to continue my studies. I want to be an honor student and it’s my priority to get my Ateneo diploma, Lopez said.
“My whole family taught me the importance of education. I want to get my Ateneo diploma and I will work hard for it.”
Lopez was rumored to join the East West Private last August, which would have given him an opportunity to join NBA G-League bound Sotto, Fil-American tower Sage Tolentino, and FEU swingman Cholo Anonuevo.
Lopez, who is currently in Grade 10 and has two playing years in UAAP Juniors, believes that Ateneo will help him fulfill his potential as an exemplary student-athlete.
“I will continue to aspire to be the best basketball player that I can be. I’m sure Ateneo has a plan and will help me achieve that. Wala pong substitute ang magandang education because I believe that for me to be able to be the best, I need the most important aspect: intelligence,” he said.
