Suspension includes PBA? League anxiously awaits FIBA verdict
By Mark Patriarca
FIBA has proven how strict they are with their regulation from the HAGOP rule that limits option for teams regarding half-blooded players that came from the Qatar controversy, and the recent 18 month suspension of Gilas’ very own Kiefer Ravena for doping incident.
And their new headache, the Gilas-Australia scuffle last Monday in Philippine Arena.
13 players are involved, four from Australia and nine from our Nationals and the international body will meticulously scrutinize all of thirteen to ensure fair and right judgement to everyone involved.
One case, already mentioned above, was the suspension of Gilas mainstay Kiefer Ravena which barred him from all basketball activities for a year and six months even outside of FIBA competitions.
FIBA body can either fine, put on probationary period, or worse, suspend anyone who was involved in the scuffle.
On the closed-door meeting of PBA, Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) and the nine involved namely Andray Blatche, Terrence Romeo, RR Pogoy, Jayson Castro, Troy Rosario, Carl Bryan Cruz, Calvin Abueva, Matthew Wright and Japeth Aguilar, it’s one of their priority to make an appeal to FIBA board if in case the sanction includes PBA games.
Surely, the whole nation is on watch how this saga would unfold for our fellow compatriots.
