Sweet-shooting UST Tigers claw down UE
UST just found their touch once again in the rainbow area.
The Growling Tigers blazed hot against UE Red Warriors, 101-73, to complete a bounce-back victory in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday October 9.
The España-based squad finally found their rhythm as early as first half the moment they led by as much as 26 points, 55-29.
From then on, UST would continue their beatdown against NU, even leading by as much as 34 points in the third period.
The Growling Tigers ended their two-game losing skid in a dominating fashion to reclaim the solo third spot with a record of 5-4.
“It was a good game. One of the factors kaya ganun yung laro kasi we were able to release the pressure,” said UST head coach Aldin Ayo.
Soulemane Chabi Yo powered UST with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Zach Huang was on fire with his career-high 22 markers on 6-of-8 shooting in the rainbow area, to go with five boards.
UST shoot their way to a season-high 101 points — which makes them the first team to tally a triple-digit score this Season 82.
For UE, they could not follow up their back-to-back victories, as they fall at the bottom of the standings with a 3-6 record.
Alex Diakhite displayed his dominance again with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Neil Tolentino chalked up 11 markers.
