Filipino champion Marlon Tapales made it clear he wanted to unify the super bantamweight titles when he climbs the ring next time.
This is why he wants to send that message across when he attends the Stephen Fulton-Naoya Inoue WBC/WBO title fight at ringside.
“I want to send a message to the two fighters who will see me ringside,” Tapales said on BoxingScene.com. “Whoever wins has to go through me next.”
The American Fulton (21-0, 8 KOs) will be trying to defend his WBC and WBO titles against the Japanese superstar Inoue (24-0, 21 KOs) on July 25 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo.
Tapales (37-3, 19 KOs) won the WBA and IBF crowns by upsetting the previously unbeaten Murodjon Akhmadaliev via split decision last April 8.
He immediately called out the winner of Fulton versus Inoue.
The WBA has approved the callout, giving Tapales the chance to become the first undisputed Filipino champion.
