Filipino boxing champion Marlon Tapales said he is not intimidated by Naoya Inoue, claiming that he knows the weakness of Japan’s “The Monster.”
Tapales, the WBA/IBF super bantamweight champion, is already in talks to unify his crowns with Inoue’s WBC and WBO straps before the end of the year.
“Asahan niyo lalaban ako para manalo,” Tapales was quoted as saying in Joaquin Henson’s report published in the Philippine Star.
“Isa sa amin babagsak, ‘di tatagal ang laban,” he added.
The “Nightmare” is working out a strategy with coach Ernel Fontanilla to tame the heavy-hitting Japanese.
“Sikreto ‘yan,” he said of his strategy.
Following Inoue’s demolition of Stephen Fulton, Tapales climbed the ring to congratulate the Japanese and issue a formal challenge.
“Nag-congratulate ako sa kaniya at sabi ko, kami next,” said Tapales, who is planning to take his camp to the US.
The Filipino, who won the IBF and WBA titles by split decision over Murodjon Akhmadaliev, said he will make the most of his opportunity.
“Ito ang pangarap ko na maging undisputed world champion,” he said. “’Di ko sasayangin ang pagkakataon.”
