Tatiana Prozorova claims nothing ‘magical’ in her sudden push-ups during match against Alex Eala

TATIANA Prozorova shed light on the unusual moment when she suddenly dropped to the court and did push-ups during a seven-deuce game point against Filipina tennis star Alexandra Eala, leaving Singapore Open spectators puzzled during her match on Thursday.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Prozorova said the spontaneous exercise was prompted by a spasm in her right chest that affected how she felt while hitting her forehand.

“It’s nothing special, just, you know, some spasm on my right chest and I just need to have some blood here to feel my forehand better. That’s all. Nothing magical,” Prozorova explained.

The Russian also addressed her visible emotional outbursts during the match, saying she felt the need to release her emotions rather than keep everything bottled up.

“But, you know, this match, it was just not possible to keep everything inside me because you just could be bombed. Just wait, wait, wait, and then boom. So I need to put it outside just to be sure that positive energy are working and negative energy are coming out,” she said.

Prozorova added that she often talks to herself—and to her coach—in Russian while competing.

“Yeah, I speak in Russian to myself, to my coach. Honestly, I don’t want to translate it to you,” she said.

Prozorova pulled off a come-from-behind 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 against Eala to advance to the quarterfinals round of the tournament. (Adrian Co)
