Aside from its dangerous opponent, Gilas Pilipinas is also wary of the extreme weather condition in Kazakhstan for its final game in the Fiba World Cup qualifiers.
Coach Yeng Guiao admitted warning his players already about the cold Kazakhstan weather by the time they hit the capital of Astana on Feb. 22.
Astana is considered the second-coldest capital city in the world after Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.
The Filipinos take on the Kazakhs on Feb. 24 for their last game in the final window of the qualifying meet for the 2019 Fiba World Cup in China.
“Wala akong alam dito na nakapag-laro na sa ganoong situation,” Guiao said.
“Kahit nga ako hindi ko pa na-experience yung below negative na temperature tapos maglalaro kayo,” he added.
The expected treatment to be given by the host to the visiting Filipinos should also be taken into consideration especially with Kazakhstan still holding to a very slim chance of qualifying for the World Cup.
In any eventuality, the national team should be ready, the veteran tactician stressed.
The national team will leave for Doha, Qatar on Feb. 16 and faces the Qataris on the 21st before taking on Kazakhstan three days later.
