Team Philippines settles for silver in women’s doubles sepak takraw

The Philippines finished with the silver medal in the women’s doubles sepak takraw competition at the 2026 Asian Games after Vietnam prevailed, 15-8, 15-4, in the championship match Tuesday at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium in Japan.

Jean Marie Sucalit and Abegail Sinogbuhan, with Nelly Jay Salon as their substitute, were unable to overcome Vietnam’s strong start and fell behind further in the second set.

The Philippine pair reached the final after surviving the group stage, where they posted victories over Japan and India. Their lone group-stage defeat came against South Korea. They won their semifinals game against Laos.

The runner-up finish gave the Philippine delegation its third silver medal and also the second podium finish for the country in sepak takraw after the Philippine men’s regu squad earlier took bronze.(Adrian Co)
