Tennis darling Alex Eala celebrates new career-high WTA No. 18 ranking

PINAY tennis sensation Alexandra Eala marked another milestone in her rapidly rising career after reaching a new-high No. 18 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings.

Eala celebrated the achievement on Instagram, sharing a screenshot of her updated WTA ranking page on Monday.

“Turned 18 twice in this lifetime🥹,” Eala wrote in her Instagram Story, referring to her new ranking.

The latest ranking represents another historic achievement for the 21-year-old Filipina, who has established herself as the highest-ranked Filipino player in WTA singles history.

Eala is also the highest-ranked Southeast Asian player in WTA singles history.

Her rise to No. 18 comes after a breakthrough stretch on the WTA Tour that included her maiden WTA 500 singles title at the Mubadala DC Open in Washington earlier this month.

She also reached the Round of 16 at the National Bank Open in Toronto and advanced to the third round of the Cincinnati Open, where her campaign ended with a three-set loss to American Amanda Anisimova.

Eala will now turn her attention to the US Open, where she is expected to be seeded in the women’s singles main draw.

The New York Grand Slam holds special significance for Eala, who won the junior girls’ singles title there in 2022. (Adrian Co)
