The Curious AWOL Case of Raymond Almazan
Raymond Almazan was nowhere to be found on Sunday evening where his team Rain or Shine suffered a 93-99 loss against Blackwater.
The Rain or Shine center has been absent for over 3 days, and head coach Caloy Garcia said that he has no clue on his whereabouts.
I haven’t talked to him for the last three days so we really don’t know where he is,” Garcia said.
“Hindi nagpaalam. Even management can’t get a hold of him so we don’t know what’s going on with Raymond,” he added.
Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time that Almazan went AWOL.
Only this year, the Gilas big man did not show up in the national team’s practice for the preparation for the second and third window of FIBA.
His act of disappearance can also be traces back last 2012, when the former Letran star did not suit up for the Knights until the end of first round of eliminations.
Despite Almazan’s huge loss at the frontcourt, the former Letran coach will still find ways to win games without him.
“Well, he’s our tallest player. He’s the one who leads this team in rebounding and of course his defense is important, but like I said, we have to do without him, we have to work with what we have and find ways to win with what we have,” Garcia said.
Aside from Almazan, Abueva also gained notoriety when he did not play for Alaska until the end of Commissioner’s Cup; hence, shipping him to the Phoenix Fuel Masters last August.
Almazan and his team has yet to release a statement about this issue.
