The dream is over: Volleyball dream team is for real

Make way for the Philippine Womens Volleyball Dream Team.

Back-to-back UAAP MVP Alyssa Valdez and 2015 UAAP Best Setter Jia Morado of Ateneo will play alongside 2015 UAAP Rookie of the Year EJ Laure and 2015 UAAP Best Blocker Marivic Meneses of UST for the Philippine Womens Volleyball Team for the Asian Under-23 tilt slated from May 1 to 9.

These four young but highly skilled top guns gave the fans a taste of what to expect from them during their training on Monday under team consultant and Ateneo coach Tai Bundit. In a clip captured by, Valdez was seen receiving the ball and Morado setting it up for Laure who pulled off a sharp crosscourt hit.

The sequence was indeed a surreal moment because it showed what many thought would only be a what-could-have-been scenario of Valdez and Laure—both products of the multi-titled UST High School Volleyball program of Francis Vicente and Kung Fu Reyes—playing together for a kill.

Had Valdez opted to play for UST for college, her fifth year self would have played alongside the rookie Laure for UAAP Season 77.

But since Valdez transferred to Ateneo, she has piloted the Lady Eagles to four straight UAAP Finals appearances and two UAAP titles. UST’s senior team, on the other hand, has missed the UAAP Final 4 three times in the last four seasons.

Only these four ladies showed up for the first day of training, but Bundit didn’t mind and the training still pushed through.

Expected to join them in the coming days are NCAA MVP Gretchel Soltones of San Sebastian, Tin Agno of FEU, Bea de Leon of Ateneo, sisters Dindin Manabat and Jaja Santiago of NU, among others.
