Thirdy Ravena treats rival La Salle as ordinary team

The Ateneo Blue Eagles stood tall against their bitter rival De La Salle Green Archers, giving them an 80-66 beating in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball competition at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

Despite the hype surrounding the storied rivalry of both teams, Ateneo star Thirdy Ravena treated this game as a regular matchup.

“We prepared for it the same way, we practiced for it the same way. Kapag mas inisip namin na La Salle siya, binibigyan namin ng pressure sarili namin. Just take it as a regular game, and ‘yung approach namin every game is like our championship game,” said Ravena.

Nonetheless, Ateneo coaches Tab Baldwin and Sandy Arespacochaga were happy with how their boys played the game.

“We’re very happy, especially on the defensive end. How we played defense, how we forced turnovers,” Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga quipped.

“It’s a very intense game – the rivalry and everything, but we’re very happy with how our players played the game individually and collectively as a team,” he added.
