This is UAAP’s Most Entertaining Team Today according to Tab Baldwin
Despite being the league’s top dog, Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin cannot help but to praise this team for their recent flashes of greatness.
Everyone was surprised on how the Growling Tigers played their last two games; even Baldwin had to acknowledge UST coach Aldin Ayo’s system.
“This is the truth; I was so entertained watching coach Aldin’s team,” said the former Gilas head coach right after leading the Blue Eagles to an 81-69 win against La Salle.
Baldwin may not be exaggerating with his claim, as the España-based squad asserted their dominance at the beginning of the season, starting with a 90-72 demolition against UE Red Warriors and an impressive 85-69 upset against the star-studded UP Fighting Maroons.
“I love the way they play basketball. I really do. I mean, they just throw their heads back and go full steam. If they’re hitting shots, good luck. I don’t think you’ll beat them if they’re hitting shots.”
Baldwin and Ayo had a colorful history in UAAP, one of which is their epic face-off in the Finals for two consecutive years where each of them had one series victory against each other.
This is why the American-Kiwi mentor knows a thing or two on how to stop the surging Growling Tigers, since they are all-in with the Ayo’s “Mayhem” system.
“I think you gotta play unbelievable defense against their pace,” Baldwin stated.
“Certainly we have to make some systemic adjustments before we play them and they may be the only team I’ve seen so far that I think that maybe the case,’ he added.
The Blue Eagles and Growling Tigers, who both have a 2-0 win loss record this Season 82, are set to clash this September 11, Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
