Thornton, NLEX fall to Aces
Despite Al Thornton’s 33-point outing, the NLEX Road Warriors failed to cruise past Alaska Aces to climb the ladder of the quarterfinals scenario, today at 2016 OPPO PBA Commissioner’s Cup at Araneta Coliseum.
The Road Warriors succumbed to the Aces, 98-104, and moved down to the seventh seed with a twice-to-win disadvantage.
Sean Anthony finished with 24 points, while Asi Taulava made 11 markers.
After trailing 20 points to Alaska in the first quarter, the Road Warriors renewed their strength with a 12-2 run at the start of the second frame behind Sean Anthony and Thornton’s strong shooting.
Anthony led NLEX in the first half with 18 points ¬¬¬on 5/6 field goals and 6/8 FT shooting, while Thornton contributed 16 points to keep Alaska’s lead on a striking distance, 45-51.
Garvo Lanete, Simon Enciso and Thornton catapulted five three-pointers on the last quarter to try stealing the lead to the Aces but the Road Warriors fell short.
NLEX who dropped to 5-6 in the standings will face the second seed team in the quarterfinals.
