Alaska survived a gallant Blackwater stand behind the heroics of Chris Banchero and Sonny Thoss to pull off a 103-101 win on Wednesday night in the PBA Philippine Cup at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Carl Bryan Cruz and Jeron Teng topscored for the Aces with 18 points apiece but it was Banchero and Thoss who conspire in the crucial moments of the game to give Alaska its second straight win.

Banchero knocked down a go-ahead jumper with 1:04 left in the game to put the Aces ahead, 101-100, before Thoss made it a three-point game with a long jumper with just 34 ticks left.

Thoss finished with 16 points while Banchero added 11 points and game-high 16 assists.

Allein Maliksi paced Blackwater with 25 points while Roi Sumang added 18 as the Elite lost their fourth consecutive game and dropped to 1-6.

The Aces, meanwhile, is now 2-1 heading into PBA’s two-week break as Gilas Pilipinas takes on the sixth and final window of the 2019 Fiba World Cup qualifiers.
