Japeth Aguilar, Stanley Pringle, and Matthew Wright were called up by Gilas Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao to take on Qatar for their second match of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers at the Big Dome on Monday.

Guiao and the SBP deliberately chose their Final 12 which was released this Sunday.

“After careful deliberation, SBP fully supports the roster adjustment proposed by Coach Yeng Guiao,” SBP President Al Panlilio declared.

Gilas leading scorer Christian Standhardinger gave up his spot as Gilas’ naturalized player to Pringle, who now has the opportunity to orchestrate the team’s offense.

“The inclusion of Stanley Pringle will add stability in our guard rotation as we want to take advantage of our quickness against the guards of Qatar,” said Panlilio.

Aguilar and Wright are set to return for the national team after serving a one-game suspension against Iran, replacing Raymond Almazan and Allein Maliksi respectively.

“It is a welcome development that Japeth Aguilar and Matthew Wright are back in the Final 12 after serving their one-game suspension imposed by FIBA,” Panlilio explained.

“Japeth’s quickness, perimeter scoring, as well as his above the rim athleticism, combined with his vast experience in the international brand of play will surely be an added boost in our battle against Qatar. Matthew Wright is a knock-down shooter from the three-point area. We struggled mightily against Iran because we couldn’t shoot from the outside, with him on-board, hopefully, that problem will be addressed.”

Team Pilipinas retained its core by including Beau Belga, Alex Cabagnot, JP Erram, Marcio Lassiter, Paul Lee,Gabe Norwood, Ian Sangalang, Scottie Thompson, and Asi Taulava.

Greg Slaughter will still miss out their game against Iran after suffering an ankle injury during Ginebra’s game against Northport.
