Tim Cone agrees Ginebra can match SMB ‘better than any other team’

PBA’s winningest coach and Brgy. Ginebra lead tactician Tim Cone believes that his squad has the biggest chance of dethroning the San Miguel Beermen dynasty in the on going 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
The reigning four-time All-Filipino champion, which had a massive retool in the off-season in the acquisition of Terrence Romeo, remains the team to beat in the brand new PBA season.
San Miguel had also since added #1 pick Christian Standhardinger to their already talent-laden lineup, completing the twin tower combination with June Mar Fajardo, and complementing the superb shooting of Marcio Lassiter and Alex Cabagnot, and the veteran Arwind Santos.
However, Cone, the most succesful coach in PBA history, agreed to the prognosis that his Barangay Ginebra squad could put up probably the toughest challenge on San Miguel’s five-peat quest in this tourney.
“We can match up with them better than any other team. We have similar size, similar quickness in the backcourt. And some other things they can do against other teams, they can’t do against us,” said Cone.
That’s the key, to be healthy, Cone stressed.
“Generally, we’re healthy. Greg (Slaughter) is healthy, Japeth (Aguilar) is healthy and LA (Tenorio) who’s always healthy, is healthy. As long as those guys are healthy, we have enough to be good,” said Cone.
The Ginebra tactician feels they’ve grown up and matured but his concern is that San Miguel has become tougher with Romeo’s arrival.
“We’re intact and we’re comfortable with each other. We know what to do and achieve, but they’ve got stronger with the addition of Christian Standhardinger and Terrence Romeo. They’re gonna be tough,” said Cone.
