TNT Tropang 5G could opt against making another roster move as the defending PBA Governors’ Cup champions weigh their options during the league break.
Team manager Jojo Lastimosa said TNT are currently keeping things quiet and may simply continue with their existing lineup, with the expected return of Rondae Hollis-Jefferson providing a major boost to their title defense.
“As of now it’s quiet. We might just opt out to not make a move and stay with our current roster,” Lastimosa said in a text message to Fastbreak on Monday morning.
Hollis-Jefferson, who has been a key figure in TNT’s recent success, is recovering from a ruptured right Achilles tendon he sustained earlier this year.
Lastimosa believes the American forward would still set the standard among the league’s imports even if he returns at less than full strength.
“Let’s not forget that if Rondae comes back at 75-80% he’s still going to be the yard stick of imports,” Lastimosa said.
The Tropang 5G have been exploring ways to strengthen their roster amid a challenging Governors’ Cup campaign, including an attempt to acquire Titan Ultra Giant Risers star Joshua Munzon via trade.
TNT currently has a 4-4 win-loss slate with Rondae’s older brother, Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson, serving as their temporary reinforcement. (Adrian Co)
