According to PBA anchor Quinito Henson, there are certain similarities between the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and TNT Tropang Giga import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
During the coverage of Game 5 of the PBA Governors’ Cup finals between the Tropang Giga and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, Henson shared a message from a friend who compared Hollis-Jefferson’s playing style to that of the Black Mamba.
“Oo nga ano? Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is like Kobe Bryant, while (Gin Kings import) Justin Brownlee is parang Michael Jordan,” Henson said.
Later in the game, when Hollis-Jefferson made a difficult fadeaway basket, Henson once again drew a comparison between Hollis-Jefferson and Bryant.
“Ayan oh. He really shoots like Kobe Bryant,” Henson was heard as saying.
Hollis-Jefferson previously played in the NBA for the Brooklyn Nets and the Toronto Raptors before moving overseas to play in various leagues, with his most recent stint being in the Korean Basketball League.
He was then recruited by the Tropang Giga as a replacement import and was subsequently recognized as the Best Import of the Conference.
During the elimination round, Hollis-Jefferson also made a statement claiming that he is better than Brownlee as he is capable of defending Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James with ease.
