Too bad: Same knee, same venue, same injury for Kevin Alas

By Miles Morales

After working his way back to the league for months due to an ACL injury, Kevin Alas will have to do it over again as he sustained the same injury in the same knee.

NLEX Road Warriors announced Alas’ injury in a Twitter post on Monday.

“We regret to inform the public that @kevinlouiealas sustained an ACL injury on his right knee during our February 2 game against the Meralco Bolts. Our medical team is set to confirm the extent of the injury through MRI results on Tuesday, February 5.”

It was a tough blow for Alas, who had just come back from the first ACL injury he sustained in last year’s Philippine Cup that sidelined him for 10 months.

The 27-year-old guard hurt his right knee following an awkward landing after he was fouled mid-air by Meralco forward Cliff Hodge in the Road Warriors’ win over the Bolts last Saturday at Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Incidentally, both injuries occurred in the same venue — the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Alas is averaging 8.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and a steal per game through five games for NLEX.

Hopefully, same result will also come for Alas’ resilience: full recovery.

NLEX is also missing the services of Kiefer Ravena, who currently serving FIBA suspension due to doping issues.
