UAAP approves ‘Challenge System’ in college volleyball
The UAAP Season 82 volleyball competition may be delayed for now, but the fans should definitely expect something new this year.
The league will now implement a new “challenge system” for the first time, in which the coach now has the power to contest a call which may deemed to be a lapse of judgment.
Volleyball fans were able to witness this system back in 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.
“During the SEA Games we also saw the challenges that were implemented. We will also implement the challenge system during this year,” said the league president Em Fernandez during the press conference on Tuesday at SM Mall of Asia Arena.
UAAP Volleyball Control Committee head Noreen Go also added, “we will pattern the challenge system after the SEA Games. We’re still finalizing all the details and we will release a memorandum to all schools, all the people involved and the media as well. We want to orient them with the correct rules and the guidelines.”
Other semi-professional leagues in the country have implemented the “challenge system” to avoid controversies during the game.
