UP Lady Maroons redeem opening loss; trounce UE in four sets
Thanks to the veteran combo of Issa Molde and Tots Carlos, UP squad got their first taste of victory this season.
The Lady Maroons avenged their opening loss in a four-set beatdown against UE Lady Warriors, 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball tournament, Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
UP brushed off their lopsided defeat against the Ateneo Lady Eagles on Wednesday by targeting the Lady Warriors, who also faltered in their debut game.
The Diliman-based hitters controlled the first two sets, only for UE to cop out the third set by capitalizing on their opponent’s collapse.
Stil, UP regrouped in the fourth canto and built their momentum on their 16-9 advantage.
“We are happy for the win. The players fought and it’s a good feeling as oppose to the first game we played. Today we are happy for the win,” said UP head coach Godfrey Okomo.
The graduating Molde registered 24 points built on 18 spikes, while fellow senior Carlos tallied 15 points on 12 total attacks.
Despite UE’s losing effort Mean Mendrez still put on a show with 21 points, while rookie Ja Lana had 17 markers.
