UP trounce FEU Tams behind Desiderio’s hot hand
The UP Fighting Maroons handed FEU Tamaraws their third straight loss, 95-82, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, October 24.
UP controlled the pace of game by scoring by as much as 37 points in the first canto.
FEU tried to cut down the lead by as much as two, 39-37, but UP continued to rely on their hot hands to bring home the win.
“This is a big win for us, not only as far as standings are concerned, but us fighting through the middle and holding off FEU’s run, because despite missing 2 big men we all know what they are capable of,” said UP head coach Bo Perasol.
Paul Desiderio exploded with 31 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the three-point line.
Juan Gomez De Liaño had a near triple-double performance with his 19 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists, and so was Bright Akhuetie who had 20 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.
UP improved their standings at 5-5 after their back-to-back wins.
Meanwhile, Brandley Bienes provided 14 points and five rebounds while Kevin Eboña contributed 13 points and eight rebounds.
FEU slipped to 5-5 after suffering their third straight loss.
