US Open champ Yuka Saso gives advice to aspiring Filipino golfer


Yuka Saso hopes that her recent historic victory in 76th US Women’s Open will inspire Filipino youths to take up the sport.

As much as the Fil-Japanese wants to see golf become a sensational sport in the country, she also wants to see up and coming golfers to love what they are doing.

“Siyempre, gusto ko po na mas dumami po ‘yung junior golfers natin sa Pilipinas,” she said. “Pero at the same time, parang ayoko naman po na ng dahil sa akin na ginusto lang nila ‘yung golf.

“Gusto ko, ‘yung parang magustuhan talaga nila galing sa puso.”

“Puso” — that is exactly what the 19-year old displayed in the golf course that led her to become the first-ever Filipina to win a golf major.

Saso’s passion and hard work for the game allowed her to endure countless hours of training to become the best at what she does.

“They need to love what they are trying to do,” she said. “You have to be very sincere. If you are very sincere, you are going to work hard.”
