The UST Golden Tigresses moved closer to the Shakey’s Super League bronze after a 25-15, 25-22, 25-15 win over the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Lady Altas in Game 1 of the best-of-three bronze medal series on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Regina Jurado top-scored for the Golden Tigresses with 19 points; Angeline Poyos added 13 markers; and Xyza Gula and Mary Banagua had 10 points apiece.
Golden Tigresses head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes said their straight-set win over the Lady Altas was a good bounce back to their heartbreaking semifinals defeat to the De La Salle University Lady Spikers.
“Ang mahalaga ay nagtatrabaho ang mga bata. Lahat ng mga natutunan namin dun sa talo namin sa La Salle ay naipakita namin this game,” Reyes said.
“At least, alam namin na kaya naming makipag sabayan dun sa mga loaded team. We have a young but promising team, both individually and as a group, and malaking bagay ‘yun,” he added.
Reigning NCAA MVP Mary Rhose Dapol was the lone double-digit scorer for the Lady Altas with 10 points, while Charmaine Ocado chipped in nine markers.
