The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers secured their second straight win in the V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge after a 25-19, 25-19, 25-15 sweep of the University of Perpetual Help Altas on Friday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Reigning UAAP MVP Josh Ybañez showcased exceptional performance with 14 points, achieved through 11 spikes, one block, and two service aces, while GBoy De Vega added 10 markers as the Tiger Spikers improved to 2-1.
Holding a slim 13-11 lead in the third set, De Vega made a significant impact for the Tiger Spikers as he anchored a 7-0 scoring run through his powerful hits against the Altas’ reception.
Jefferson Marapoc stood out as the sole player in double digits for the Altas with 15 points. Klint Mateo, serving as the substitute setter in this match, also made a notable impact as an opposite hitter. The Altas fell to 2-1.
The defending champion National University Bulldogs bounced back from their loss against the Tiger Spikers last Wednesday with a 25-14, 29-27, 22-25, 25-23 beating of the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals.
Trailing 18-21 in the fourth set, Jade Disquitado spearheaded a 4-0 run to seize the advantage at 22-21 before Buds Buddin contributed consecutive scores to seal the victory.
Buddin and Disquitado both concluded with 19 points, while team captain Leo Aringo Jr. contributed 15 points along with two digs and nine excellent receptions as the Bulldogs improved to 2-1.
“Medyo may kulang lang sa opensa namin, medyo hindi consistent. ‘Yung unforced errors namin andon pa rin, pero good thing nailusot namin tong game na ‘to,” said Bulldogs assistant coach Ariel Dong Dela Cruz.
