UST’s Rondina Leads in UAAP volley in scoring
University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses star Cherry Rondina has emerged as the leader in scoring after the first round of eliminations of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
Based on the data released by the league, Rondina tallied a total of 151 points, from 136 spikes, four blocks and 11 service aces after six matches for Golden Tigresses (2-5).
National women’s volleyball team mainstay Jaja Santiago of league-leading National University Lady Bulldogs is at second place with 141 points, on 111 kills, 20 blocks and 10 service aces.
Completing the top five in the category are University of the Philippines Lady Maroons’ Diana Carlos with 135 points, Bernadeth Pons of Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws (112) and Ateneo Lady Eagles’ Jhoana Maraguinot (107).
Santiago, meanwhile, has defeated Rondina in the spiking department with the Lady Bulldogs star having a 44.22 success rate, while the Golden Tigresses hitter has 40.60 success rate.
In the blocking department, Lady Tamaraws’ Celine Domingo, Adamson Lady Falcons’ Mylene Paat and Lady Bulldogs’ Roselyn Doria are tied at the No. 1 spot with 0.72 average blocks per set.
De La Salle University Lady Spikers’ Michelle Cobb and Desiree Cheng, on the other hand, topped the serving department with 0.62 average aces per set. At third is Lady Tamaraws’ Toni Rose Basas with 0.52 average aces per set.
Lady Bulldogs’ setter Jasmin Nabor has a slim .01 lead over her Lady Eagles’ Deanna Wong in the best setter race. Nabor has 8.38 average excellent sets per set while Wong has 8.37.
Lady Spikers’ Dawn Macandili and Kath Arado of University of the East Lady Warriors are in a tight match in digging and receiving with the former leading the latter in digging and the latter topping over the former in receiving. (ASC)
