It’s a comeback for 39-year-old Udonis Haslem as he returns to Miami Heat for his 17th season in the league with a one-year minimum contract worth $2.6 million, as per Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds.
Haslem has always been a true-blooded Heat, having won three NBA championships with the team. Born in Miami, he has spent his entire career playing for the Heat after signing with them in 2003.
Haslem posted the teaser on his Instagram account with the caption: “Too be continued Heat Nation!!! #og #heatlifer”. The Heat then followed with the announcement of his return.
“We are proud to welcome our captain back for a 17th season,” Miami Heat president Pat Riley said in a statement. “UD is the heart and soul of Miami and we are proud to have him help lead this team once again.”
Surely, Haslem’s leadership will be beneficial for the Heat in the upcoming season as the retirement of superstar Dwyane Wade left the team with a hole to fill. He may not have crazy stats or a blinding presence in the court, but Haslem’s reliability and drive in making energy plays will definitely hype up his teammates and the crowd once again.
