Wala Na: NBA G-League confirms Kai Sotto won’t be rejoining Ignite in Orlando bubble
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Kai Sotto will no longer rejoin Ignite in the league’s current season.
According to the league’s statement, the parting of ways was a “mutual decision” between Sotto and the Ignite team that he is supposed to play in before he decided to fly back home to join Gilas Pilipinas for the third window of FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
“NBA G League Ignite and international prospect Kai Sotto of the Philippines today announced the mutual decision that Sotto will not re-join Ignite,” said NBA G-League president Shareef Abdul-Rahim.
“With the team’s permission, Sotto left Ignite in January to train with the Philippines National Team at the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifying Tournament in Qatar before that event was cancelled.
The Filipino teen prodigy was already training with the select team until he decided to join Gilas around January.
The 7-foot-3 arrived in the country and completed his quarantine before joining the national team at Inspire Sports Academy.
However, Doha begged off to host the final window of the qualifiers due to the rising cases of coronavirus in Qatar.
Sotto and his dad Erwin flew back to US, but reports already surfaced that the 7-foot-3 did not rejoin Ignite inside the bubble in Orlando.
Sotto’s camp, as well as his East West Private handlers, have yet to address the issue.
