‘We are not underdogs’ says Christian Standhardinger against Iran
Christian Standhardinger made a bold statement regarding Team Pilipinas’ odds against Iran in the fourth window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers on September 13.
During their final practice, the Gilas center was quick to disregard Iran’s edge over the national team.
“I don’t think we’re the underdogs,” he said.
“We lost against China by 2 points. We should win, and if we don’t win obviously we all take the blame.”

Gilas was only one play away from defeating China in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia with Jordan Clarkson.
Meanwhile, Iran fell short against China in their battle for gold at the same tournament, 84-72.
Despite Standhardinger’s claim, Gilas coach Yeng Guiao still views Iran as a basketball powerhouse because of their team chemistry and home court advantage, which makes them hard to beat.
“Mas mahirap talunin ang Iran kapag nasa homecourt nila,” said Guiao.
“After nine year or more sila pa rin magkakasama, tayo nine days lang.”
