‘We’re not unbeatable’ Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin prepares for grueling Finals
Ateneo Blue Eagles finished Season 82 with an immaculate 14-0 record, but that doesn’t mean that they are unbeatable already.
At least that was Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin said.
“We’re not unbeatable, I know that. We just haven’t been beaten yet,” said Baldwin in an exclusive interview with Abante Sportstalakan.
The American-Kiwi mentor has always preached about the risks of being complacent, which is why the Blue Eagles didn’t took any breaks since their last match against UP Fighting Maroons on October 30.
“Well, we don’t have a break. Basically, for us it’s business as usual,” Baldwin said.
Two weeks later, UST had just defeated FEU and UP in the stepladder round to set an appointment with Ateneo in the Finals on Saturday.
Yes, it was UST who almost had a fair chance of beating Blue Eagles, but they were just one or two possessions away to do so in the first round.
Which is why Ateneo doubles its effort in training and building a much formidable basketball team in the Finals
“If we continue to do our job and we continue to focus on excellence and don’t let ourselves slip back then we will be difficult to beat,” Baldwin said.
If in the end nobody beats us then that will be something we’re very proud of.”
