Why not? Cone wants Brownlee to play for Gilas
Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone wants his prolific import Justin Brownlee to play as the naturalized player of Gilas Pilipinas national team in the Fiba Basketball World Cup.
Cone made the statement after the defending champs won over Meralco, 110-95, where Brownlee flirted with a triple-double buit with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists.
“I know that Andray (Blatche) is a great player and I know all those guys. I really don’t have any say in that. But I tell you, my vote goes to Justin as the for the national team,” Cone said.
Currently, a bill has been filed calling for the Filipino naturalization of Brownlee, one of the most well-loved imports to have played in the Philippines.
Gilas coach Yeng Guiao, however, has earlier said that Blatche’s spot with the national squad in the Fiba World Cup is already locked, citing the need of a big man for the competition.
But the winningest PBA coach still believes Brownlee can bring a lot to the table for Gilas Pilipinas if he is eligible to play in the World Cup.
“He can change a team, not just by his play but his personality. He is an amazing player and a human being. He really is.”
