FILIPINA tennis star Alexandra Eala is earning recognition not only for her performances on the court but also for her emerging sense of style.
British fashion icon Anna Wintour, who served as editor-in-chief for magazine Vogue from 1988 to 2025, recently praised Eala, noting the young Filipina’s growing interest in fashion and self-expression.
In a video shared by the US Open on social media, Wintour discussed how tennis players have increasingly used fashion to showcase their personalities, pointing to former champions Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka as prominent examples.
“Well, I think it’s really interesting, especially when you look at players like Serena or Naomi who really embrace fashion and express themselves with it,” Wintour said.
She then highlighted Eala, describing her as a young star who is already showing a strong interest in the fashion world.
“And we had the young Filipino star. You know, you could see even in such a young star how interested she is in fashion and how she wants to learn about it and follow it, and I think it’s great,” Wintour said.
Wintour also welcomed the growing connection between athletics and fashion, describing their relationship as a positive development.
“It’s wonderful how sports and fashion have become this wonderful sort of marriage,” she said.
Wintour made the remarks while attending a US Open exhibition match featuring Roger Federer and Andy Roddick, where she also served as a ceremonial coin-toss guest.
The longtime fashion industry figure has been one of the most influential personalities in publishing and fashion, making her recognition of Eala another notable moment for the rising Filipina star.
