James Yap delivered a vintage performance to lift Rain or Shine past NLEX, 96-87, to book the Elasto Painters’ first PBA Philippine Cup victory on Friday night at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Yap led the way for the Painters with a 20-point outburst plus 3 assists.

Rookie Javee Mocon added 13 markers and 5 rebounds off the bench while Beau Belga chipped in 9 points, 7 boards and 7 dimes for the near-triple-double.

Maverick Ahanmisi completed a three-point-play off a fadeaway jumper at the 4:16 mark of the 4th canto to push the Painters’ lead by 11, 91-80.

From there, Rain or Shine never looked back and foiled Road Warriors’ comeback attempts.

JR Quiñahan paced NLEX with 19 points, 5 boards, 5 assists, 4 steals and a block.

Kevin Alas added 12 markers in his long-awaited return while Erram had 10 points off the bench in his NLEX debut.
