Yap’s clutch trey seals ‘W’ for Rain or Shine, ties series vs Ginebra

By Mark Patriarca

When in doubt, just give the ball to James Yap. You’ll never go wrong with a player whose monicker is “Big Game”.

And he proved that once again as he broke the hearts of thousand of Ginebra fans in attendance by puncturing a long heave from the rainbow country that silenced the whole arena, except of course from the Rain or Shine squad and supporters.

With time winding down, Rain or Shine is with the possession while holding a slim 4-point margin, 104-100, when two-time MVP Yap delivered the goods with a booming trey to extend the lead to seven, and clinch the game for Elastopainters with only 1:06 minute left on the clock.

Rain or Shine’s victory also ended the eight-game winning streak of Ginebra dating back from the elimination phase.

ROS hefty import Reggie Johnson had a monster double-double with 25 points and 20 rebounds while Yap scored 18.

Justin Brownlee’s 29 points and 12 boards went for naught as they dropped the win. Greg Slaughter also had a good game with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Game 3 will happen on July 21, Saturday, 7 p.m. at MOA Arena.
