Rain or Shine’s youth brigade steps up as the Elasto Painters jolted Magnolia Hotshots, 93-80, to take a commanding 2-0 lead in their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series, Sunday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Leading the second seeded ROS were the troika of young guns Ed Daquiaog, Norbert Torrest and Rey Nambatac who combined for 47 points.

Getting major minutes in the absence of injured big man Raymond Almazan, Torres made the most of the opportunity and set the tone for the Elasto Painters in the opening quarter.

Torres scored 10 of his 16 points in the first canto. He also finished with 5 rebounds, a steal, and a block in nearly 15 minutes of action.

Daquiaog backstopped Torres’ explosion, scattering 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

The third-year guard out of UST scored 8 of his output in the second quarter, where he sparked ROS’ 18-6 run that turned a 3-point lead to a wide 41-26 gap with 4:40 remaining, which started the one-sided affair in their favor.

Nambatac chipped in 12 points while veteran Gabe Norwood added 10.

Rain or Shine will shoot for a pulsating 3-0 lead in Game Three on Tuesday.
