Topex Robinson raves about Mike Phillips’ inclusion in SEA Games roster

La Salle Green Archers head coach Topex Robinson couldn’t be prouder of Mike Phillips as the DLSU standout gears up to represent the Philippines in the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.

Phillips, known for his relentless energy and high-flying plays, will be donning national colors alongside his basketball idol Justin Brownlee, a moment the Green Archers mentor calls “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

“Well, it’s an honor for him to be there. He’s not only representing Gilas Pilipinas, he’s also representing DLSU,” said Robinson in an interview.

“And we always support that. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him. And we’re here to really support him on his journey.”

The veteran coach also emphasized how meaningful this call-up is, noting that the SEA Games stint comes during Phillips’ final year in the UAAP — making the experience even more special.

“Especially, this is gonna be his final year. So, we wanna make it as memorable as it is for him,” Robinson added.

Phillips joins a Gilas squad led by Brownlee, who continues to be a symbol of leadership and loyalty in Philippine basketball.

For the La Salle forward, it’s not just about national pride, it’s about learning from one of his biggest inspirations.

As Gilas Pilipinas aims to defend its men’s basketball gold medal and extend its regional dominance, Robinson says the entire La Salle community stands firmly behind their big man.

“We’re all proud of him,” the coach concluded. “He’s carrying not just the flag, but also the heart of the Green Archers.” (JNV)
