Topex Robinson on their title run: ‘The team that gambles wins championships’

De La Salle University head coach Topex Robinson described the Green Archers’ UAAP Season 88 championship run as a test of faith and courage, saying the team’s willingness to gamble in the biggest moments ultimately delivered their return to the throne.

After completing the Finals trilogy with an 80–72 win over the University of the Philippines in Game 3, Robinson reflected on a season defined by injuries, suspensions, and doubt.

“Our adversities really strengthened our faith,” Robinson said after clinching La Salle’s 11th UAAP men’s basketball crown. “Sometimes we ask if we deserve it, but we just keep believing.”

Robinson revealed that one of the decisive adjustments in Game 3 deploying a bigger lineup came from internal trust rather than fear of failure.

“I told them we had to gamble instead of being careful,” he said. “The team that gambles wins championships.”

The coach also credited his staff for helping him manage anxiety and pressure throughout the Finals. Robinson admitted this was the most nervous stretch of his coaching career, facing the defending champions on a winner-take-all stage.

Despite the emotional weight, Robinson made sure to acknowledge UP for elevating the series.

“We honor UP for bringing out the best in us,” he said. “This journey is worth remembering.” (JNV)
