Anthony Edwards surpasses Kevin Garnett as Timberwolves’ all-time playoff scorer

Kevin Garnett has long stood as the Minnesota Timberwolves’ greatest player, but Anthony Edwards is quickly closing in on that title, per Bleacher Report’s Andrew Peters.

On Thursday, Edwards reached another milestone by surpassing Garnett as the franchise’s all-time leading playoff scorer. The 23-year-old now has 1,051 career postseason points, eclipsing Garnett’s total during Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Garnett, who was drafted in 1995, led the Wolves to their first playoff appearance in 1997 and won the franchise’s only MVP award in 2004. He remains a towering figure in Minnesota basketball history.

But Edwards is carving a new legacy of his own.

A rising MVP candidate, Edwards helped end the Timberwolves’ long playoff drought by leading them to a series win in 2023—Minnesota’s first since 2004. Now, he’s on the verge of leading the franchise to its first NBA Finals appearance.

While the Timberwolves suffered a tough 114-88 loss in Game 1 against top-seeded OKC, Edwards and company are far from done. If he can power Minnesota past the Thunder and deeper into the postseason, the conversation about who holds the franchise’s crown might finally shift in his favor.
